Welcome to Capacity Works 2CapacityWorks 2 reflects the spirit of a global network of activists who are creating a person-centered world view that honors the capacities of people with disabilities and supports their engagement in civic life. CapacityWorks2 seeks to authenticate the art form of the imaginative journey of thousands who are finding their way toward a larger purpose in life.
We began CapacityWorks in 1999 as a way to make available two books and four posters by Beth Mount, designed and produced by Rooney Design Group. CapacityWorks expanded over the past 14 years as Beth continued to collaborate and create artworks, books, video, and other productions that emphasize the combination of art and activism, better known as “artivism.” The combination of art and activism is best expressed in the 2008 book, "Make a Difference"by John O’Brien and Beth Mount which is available from Inclusion Press. Beth provides updates regarding her on-going person-centered planning projects on the BethMount.org website. The digital age is changing everything including us, leading to the 2013 launch of CapacityWorks2. We are excited about new methods for the reproduction of original artwork, so we are expanding our capacity to produce custom-designed items for special events and occasions. Visit the GALLERY and SHOP to learn more about the new art and products. With the advent of Youtube, facebook and iBooks, we are able to bring to life the stories behind the quilts as well as a number of free downloads and resources such as the YouTube videos cited below and on our Links page. Owners of iPads can download a free iBook of the Journey to Beloved Community catalog from the 2012 Story Quilt exhibit at the Telfair Museum in Savannah Georgia. We look forward to bringing you updates related to new videos and products so be sure to join our E-club! Finally, we are most excited about our commitment to represent new and emerging artists who will launch their own product lines such as handmade journals, temporary tattoos, and inspirational posters. In the months ahead, we will begin to feature new artists and their products on a regular basis. We look forward to our on-going relationship with so many friends and loyal patrons who share with us a dream of a world that works for everyone. CapacityWorks2 is our way of sharing the journey into the light of possibility and the dark of injustice to unfold deeper levels of purpose and persistence! - Beth Mount, Capacity Works and Maureen Rooney, Rooney Design Group YouTubeVideo: Beautiful JusticePublished in May, 2012 by the Creative Coast
